New technology is finding its way into our stoves and ovens!
Today’s appliances are not the same as those of your parents. With smart technology improving and making everything smarter, from your TV to your thermostat, appliances are no different. Appliances, such as your stove and oven, can be turned on from your phone, and foods can be cooked faster and healthier using Air Fryer technology. Have commercial appliances, normally sold to restaurants, found their way into the average household? In this series of articles, we will explore where each of the following appliances is with regard to features, style, and price:

The Future of Appliances: How Technology is Changing the Stove and Oven
In this article, we are talking about Stoves and Ovens. Stoves are appliances for cooking and baking. In the past, they had multiple functions, including heating and lighting. The early stoves were fueled by wood. These stoves were eventually replaced by electric and gas stoves and combined with ovens. In a world where everything seems to be getting smarter and smaller, who would have thought stoves would be next. However, technology has found its way into this popular appliance.

History

The design of stoves has constantly been changing since ancient times in order to become more functional, safe, and beautiful. The first stove, dating back to 1490 in Alsace, was made of brick and tile. In the 1700s, wood shortage in Philadelphia inspired Benjamin Franklin to invent cast iron stoves to be used instead of the usual fireplaces because they consumed less wood.
With the passing of time, people got inspiration from the Franklin stove to build stoves with a cooking feature. The stoves continued to evolve, were combined with ovens, changed from wood fuel to coal, gas, and electricity; until finally technology’s biggest achievement was the Smart Stove.

The Future of Appliances: How Technology is Changing the Stove and Oven

Technology and Stoves

Technology helped stoves improve, from brick and tile stoves to the smart induction hubs that we see everywhere now. Nowadays, there are stoves and ovens designed to be more user and environmentally friendly, speeding up the cooking process as well as having many other functions that no one could have imagined. The ultimate purpose of integrating technology with stoves and ovens is to make cooking easier and more enjoyable. If you want to be familiar with the latest features of these appliances, keep reading.

Features of the Latest Stoves and Ovens

Recently brands have been introducing stoves and ovens with smart capabilities. This new technology allows you to control your stove or oven from the comfort of your couch using an app on your phone, even if you are at work or out of the house. Other capabilities include preheating the oven while away from home, being notified when your food is done cooking, and being able to monitor burners while they are on.
Smart stoves can connect to other smart appliances in your home, such as your refrigerator, microwave, and hood. This connectivity allows these appliances to work together seamlessly, making cooking easier than ever. For instance, if you purchase a compatible Wi-Fi-enabled stove and hood, the hood will switch on when it detects steam and odors from your cooking and modify its settings accordingly.

Some models even have a camera, so you can see how your dish is cooking through an app on your phone. You can even send recipes to your oven for automatic setting selection.
The induction stove is one of the best gifts of technology in kitchen appliances. These stoves have smooth tops and use a different cooking mechanism than electric stoves. Instead of heating the cooktop’s surface, they transfer the heat to the cookware on the surface using electromagnetics, and the food inside heats up.
One of the latest designs of these stoves is the invisible induction cooktop. In this design, the induction is placed directly under the countertop, and you can cook on the counter of your kitchen without getting burned!
A brand new design you will be excited about when you see it, is a cooktop that looks like a giant tablet. You can manage social media with it, see notifications from your cell phone, and place a pot wherever you want on the cooktop, and start cooking. I hope to see this design widely available soon.

Price

Smart stoves and ovens can be considerably more expensive than non-smart ones. Typically, a smart stove is about $1,000 more expensive than a conventional stove. The more smart features it has, the greater the price will be.
Is it worth the extra money? The answer depends on you and your preferences. Smart appliances all come with one primary goal: making life easier. So, purchasing a smart stove or oven is not a necessity. It helps you to save time and effort by automating some of your cooking functions.

Future

In summary, the stove and oven of yesterday has changed with the times and will continue to do so. It is unpredictable where the technology is going to take stoves and ovens. Personally, I think that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will probably be more integrated with these appliances. For example, an oven that can recognize what is inside and decide how to cook it. So, we can say technology and innovation are working together to make our lives more comfortable and convenient.
