How long does a kitchen remodel take?
A refresh with the same layout often takes 2 to 4 weeks on site. A full remodel, however, usually takes 6 to 10 weeks, plus time for design, permits and cabinet lead times, which we plan before demo starts.
Permits, design and walls
Do I need a permit to remodel my kitchen in Philadelphia?
Usually yes. New plumbing and electrical work needs permits, and removing or altering walls needs a building permit. However, purely cosmetic work like painting may not. Either way, we pull and manage all permits.
Is the 3D design really free?
Yes. After the consultation, we design your kitchen in 3D so you can see the layout, cabinets and finishes and make changes before you commit.
Can I open my row-home kitchen to the dining room?
Often yes. Because many of these walls are load-bearing, an engineer specifies a beam and we get a building permit. That is why we check this at the first visit.
Cabinets, living at home and financing
Should I reface or replace my cabinets?
If the cabinet boxes are solid and the layout works, refacing or painting saves money and time. However, if the layout changes or the boxes are damaged, replacing is better.
Can I still use my kitchen during the remodel?
Not during a full remodel. Instead, we help you plan a temporary kitchen area and keep the work area sealed off and cleaned up daily.
Can I finance a kitchen remodel?
Yes. Homeowners commonly use a home equity line, cash-out refinance or a renovation loan. Also, if you are buying or refinancing, an FHA 203(k) or HomeStyle loan can include the kitchen, and we work with those loans every day.
Can I live in my house during a kitchen remodel?
Yes, many of our clients do. For example, on our Moyer St project the family stayed at home and we set up a temporary sink. We also plan the work so the mess stays in one area.
Do you install kitchen tile and backsplashes?
Yes. Tile floors and backsplashes are part of most of our kitchen remodels, so one crew handles the cabinets, counters and tile.
